Maha Kumbh Shahi Snan

Timings: January 14- February 26 Location: Ghats

Shahi Snan begins in the early morning or midnight in Kumbh Mela on pre-decided dates.It represents the custom of the holy men and their devotees bathing in the sacred water of the river. The Shahi Snan is extremely important because it is thought to cleanse the soul of all past sins and open the door to liberation from the cycle of life and death.

The holy men from various Akharas (religious orders) come to the bathing ghats on this day resembling a royal parade and hence is known as a "royal" bath. The Naga Sadhus of the various Akharas take a holy dip in the sacred river to start the Shahi Snan ritual.

Significance:

It is said that the Shahi Snan provides spiritual merit and blessings by cleansing the soul and washing away the sins. Hindu mythology teaches that bathing in the sacred rivers during the Kumbh Mela is a very religious practice. The days of Shahi Snan are very sacred to the devotees and are regarded as the most auspicious period for performing these activities.

Important Shahi Snan Dates and Schedule:

1. Makar Sankranti (First Shahi Snan)

Date: January 14, 2025

Significance: It shows the beginning of the Kumbh Mela and is celebrated with the first-ever royal bath.

2. Mauni Amavasya (Second Shahi Snan)

Date: January 29, 2025

Significance: It is known as the Shahi Snan's most auspicious day as it attracts the greatest number of pilgrims.

3. Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan)

Date: February 3, 2025

Significance: It is believed to be the most significant bathing day as it denotes the arrival of spring.

4. Maghi Purnima (Fourth Shahi Snan)

Date: February 12, 2025

Significance: This day is also known as a full moon day and it is important for the various spiritual activities and bathing rituals.

5. Maha Shivaratri (Fifth Shahi Snan)

Date: February 26, 2025

Significance: This is the Fifth Shahi Snan day and focuses on Lord Shiva and which includes unique prayers and ritual baths
