According to the Hindu mythology, Maha Aarti is celebrated to offer tribute to the river and the devas. “Arti” is derived from the Sanskrit word which means something that removes darkness.

Maha Aarti symbolizes the five elements:

Space (Akasha): Represented by a yak-tail fan.

Wind (vayu): Represented by a peacock fan.

Fire (Agni): Represented by the lamp or candle.

Water (jalam): Represented by water and handkerchief.

Activities

Tirthraj Prayagraj Aartis are conducted with deep respect and devotion on the banks of the Ganga and Yamuna at Sangam. During the morning and evening Aartis, a group of Batuks (Priests), usually 5 to 7 in number, chant hymns with great fervor while holding carefully crafted lamps and worshipping the Ganga, Yamuna, and Sangam with the utmost devotion. The significance of panchtatva is symbolized by the lamps that the batuks hold.

The ceremony begins with a sacred fire surrounded by priests and they chant powerful mantras and hymns. Experience the main rituals where the priests wave the large oil lamps by the sound of bells, drums, and shells. This experience creates divine visuals of light against the dark sky. After the aarti, get the Prasad to add up good deeds for your life.
